-
Autoclave – They are closed air tight chambers that apply heat and pressure, and if required steam, over a period of time to properly treat medical waste. Autoclaves are used to destroy all microorganisms that may exist in medical waste before disposal in a traditional landfill. The autoclave lowers the pressure within the chamber, which shortens the amount of time required to generate stea
Thermal Oxidation (incineration) –
- It is used to combust, treat and dispose of those hazardous waste materials that otherwise could not be treated and disposed of by other treatment and disposal methods. EPCO hazardous waste incinerator is a rotary kiln type device containing primary and secondary combustion chambers.
-
The design feed rate of hazardous wastes to the unit is 1ton/ hr. of hazardous waste and is operating on a continuous basis. The primary combustion chamber operates at about 1000 deg. C while the secondary combustion chambers have temperature of about 1200 deg. C with residence time of two (2) seconds.
-
The latest Incinerator was installed with the number of control devices to control air emissions, These include
Venture scrubber
Lime treatment
Packed bed scrubber
Activated carbon treatment
Bag filters. -
The control efficiencies of these air pollution control devices is in compliance with international standards.
