Why EPCO?
Protection of the Environment (Weqayah Program)
The Program was established to participate in developing environmental services across the GCC Region by launching the most sophisticated technologies of recycling, waste treatment and disposal of all hazardous wastes. The various regions of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are not covered properly with environmental facilities locally that can fulfill the increasing demand. Therefore, EPCO has established the WEN concept. This concept will be applied gradually for the needs of the local communities, we have allocated several sites that will be used for this program in the future for expansion purposes and have also approached the concerned authorities for obtaining sites and required permits on long term basis.
WEN concept is a Pan Nation program aiming to establish 14 fully operational and sophisticated waste treatment centers to serve the local communities in several regions, based on their demands. Taking into consideration the factors such as City,Regional population, Medical entities, and industrial Complexes.

Under the WEN Program it is our aim to establish differrent types of centers as below.
- Type A: This will be a comprehensive treatment center with a full range of facilities that include all needed latest technologies to cover a wide range of waste that is generated by medical and industries. A chemical/physical plant is added as a request for industries that generate chemicals in large quantities. Resources recovery is added to refine the used oil and to offer an economical and cost efficient method to replace incinerator use in some kinds of industrial wastes. The presence of evaporation ponds is necessary as a result of waste water that is expected. Collection ponds will serve the resources recovery and incinerator as the feeder.
- Type B: All facilities that are included in Type C Site, plus a class 2 landfill
- Type C: The site is similar to the Type D Site but with addition to an incinerator, operation and maintenance teams. This will be used in larger communities and is dependent on the availability of incenerable items. Obviously the ash residue will be directed to the nearest Landfill facility of the group.
- Type D: It will involve in providing Medical Treatment Facilities that will serve hospitals and clinics with adequate transportation and supported maintenance and operations (Medical Segregation Training will apply in all programs) all types of infectious waste will be treated, however the Cytotoxic and Geynotoxic will be treated in nearest incineration facilities only.
